This exceptional lot of coffee was produced entirely by women, primarily widows due to the genocide that occurred in Rwanda in the 1990's. This effort is part of Musasa Dunkunde Kawas mission to improve the livelihood of some of rural Rwanda's most vulnerable populations.

The program is made up of 310 women from the Dunkunde Kawas Musasa Cooperative. The income is used directly to support them in beginning to improve their lives as well as the lives of their children and extended family. This specific lot is grown and processed by 50 women.

Cherries are hand picked when ripe and then pulped that same evening using a mechanical pulper. After pulping, the coffee is fermented overnight for around 12 hours. Then the beans are dried for around 14 days (depending on the weather).
