The Songwe region is situated in southern Tanzania bordering Zambia and Malawi and is rich in agricultural production. Mbozi District, where the Iyenga Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Society (AMCOS) is located is populated with 175 villages and around 515,000 people.

This lot is comprised of Kent, Nourbon, N39 & Compact varietals. The Compact varietal was created by the Tanzania Coffee Research Institute as the farmers were facing Coffee Berry Disease and Leaf Rust. This varietal is resistant to the disease so was produced to help smallholders and it also has a higher yield compared to older varietals.

Mercanta (our importer) works with Taylor Winch, their exporting partner in Tanzania. They have assisted the Iyenga AMCOS by helping sell their coffee into international markets and even construsted a surnised kindergarten school for the children of the community.
